HISTORY OF THE BAND
The band's roots go back to 1998 when Dave and Charlie started jamming
with various other musicians in the 10th grade at Myers Park High School
in Charlotte, NC. Eventually they formed P-Dawg Seven and the Suburban
Gangsters, which included John Leupold on drums and Brandon Ellis on
vocals. This ridiculous crew played several unforgettable shows at Pat's
Tavern in the NoDa district of Charlotte, as well as numerous private
parties. After graduation, the members went their separate ways, but Dave
and Charlie continued to work on the material that is now the backbone of
Seven Minute Bender. Charlie studied and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill
with a major in Business and a Jazz Studies minor. Dave attended NC State
before devoting his time to independent study of music and bass. The
lineup was complete in 2003 with the addition of Trevor Cook on drums.
For several years the trio worked tirelessly to develop the band, striving
to create an original sound built on its many diverse influences. Around
25 original songs were created during this time. Much new music was
discovered, and new paths envisioned. The emphasis of the music was
always on the live performance, where the group developed a unique
chemistry and, at times, excelled. Unfortunately, they never had the
opportunity to record a full album. There exists only a demo and various
live recordings…of varying quality. Early in 2006, Trevor announced that
he was leaving the band. After completing the remainder of the shows
scheduled at that time, he parted ways, leaving Charlie and Dave to decide
their fate.
Since then, the music has not stopped. Charlie has focused his attention
primarily to developing his jazz skills, participating in jam sessions
and, over the summer, playing with the Carl Claypool Trio (featuring
Coleman Cook on the bass and Logan Templeton on drums). Dave has been
quite prolific in his own right, composing numerous songs under the guise
of Feet Davis. Check out his music on myspace. Charlie and Dave continue
to jam with various musicians, searching for a drummer that offers the
perfect compliment to their sound. As it stands now, they are still
waiting. >>Email the band
